Remember that long list of adventure dives you got to choose from on your Advanced Open Water Diver course? Well, each one of those adventure dives is the first dive in the corresponding specialty diver course. Of course, not all adventure dives and specialties are suitable for Koh Tao dive courses (take drift diver, ice diver, and cavern diver, for example). But, the good news is that Koh Tao diving conditions are exceptionally suited to many of the most popular specialties.

PEAK PERFORMANCE BUOYANCY
4 DIVES | 2-3 DAYS (flexible)
The ocean is full of history, and wreck diving allows you to visit sunken ships while learning specialised techniques to navigate and explore them safely. Here on Koh Tao, we have three world-class wreck dive sites.
What you’ll learn: Wreck dive preparation, planning, safety considerations, navigation, mapping, external expiration, and penetration.
Course highlights: The wrecks you can visit on Koh Tao (HTMS Sattakut, HTMS Suphairin, or HTMS Hanhak Sattru) are all retired navy vessels steeped in history.
Unique appeal: Achieving your Wreck Diver certification allows you to penetrate wrecks and explore the inside of sunken vessels.
UNDERWATER NAVIGATOR
3 DIVES | 2-3 DAYS (flexible)
Ever finished a dive and surfaced exactly where you started? Did it leave you wondering how your Divemaster managed it so effortlessly? Well, here’s your chance to learn the tricks of the trade!
What you’ll learn: Compass use, natural navigation, estimating distance, navigating patterns, relocation of dive sites, and dive site mapping.
Course highlights: You’ll learn how to map dive sites and return to specific locations with precision to maximize dive time and minimize surface swims.
Unique appeal: A must-have certification for divers who love exploration, want to increase their independence, or have ambitions of becoming a Divemaster.
NIGHT DIVER
3 DIVES | 2-3 DAYS (flexible)
Discover the thrill of diving after dark, when the underwater world transforms into a completely different environment. Nocturnal marine life, bioluminescence, and a unique atmosphere make night diving an unforgettable experience.
What you’ll learn: Night dive planning, how to communicate using torchlight, navigation, and how to spot and interact with nocturnal marine species.
Course highlights: You’ll see marine species you’ll never see through the day, play with bio-luminescent plankton, and witness sights like barracudas hunting.
Unique appeal: Night diving is the closest thing most people experience to being in space. It’s genuinely one of the most exciting and mesmerising experiences imaginable.
ENRICHED AIR NITROX (EANX) DIVER
2 DIVES (optional) | 2-3 DAYS (flexible)
Want to extend your bottom time and reduce nitrogen loading? The Enriched Air Nitrox specialty is one of the most practical and widely used certifications, allowing you to dive more and feel less fatigued afterwards.
What you’ll learn: How to analyse nitrox blends, set up your dive computer for nitrox, and safely plan dives using higher oxygen percentages.
Course highlights: Seeing for yourself how Eanx blends can extend your bottom time, allowing you to stay at depth for longer and explore more at deeper dive sites.
Unique appeal: Nitrox certification is a significant advantage for divers looking to take multi-day diving holidays or liveaboard trips.
NEED TO KNOW INFO AT A GLANCE
Medical clearance: Before taking any Koh Tao specialty dive courses, you must complete a short medical questionnaire. A doctor's approval may be required if you answer “yes” to any questions. Please contact us before booking if you’re unsure about anything on the form.
Diving insurance: While diving on Koh Tao is very safe, local laws require divers to have adequate insurance coverage. As part of our commitment to safety, we include insurance as standard on all of our Koh Tao dive trips.
